Warner Bros Discovery Appoints Showmax Exec as Nordics Content Chief
Warner Bros Discovery is shaking things up with a new content chief in the Nordics, signaling a potential return to scripted originals in the region. Allan Sperling, a former MultiChoice and Viacom executive, has been appointed as the Group Vice President of Programming, Networks, and Streaming for the Nordic region, starting December 2. He will be based in Stockholm from January onward, overseeing program planning and operations for WBD’s portfolios in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.
Sperling’s role will involve developing local Nordic productions for streamer Max and curating content tailored to the preferences of local audiences. This marks a significant shift for Warner Bros Discovery, as they seem to be reentering the Nordics original production scene after stepping back in 2022 when HBO Max originals were phased out during restructuring. While WBD Nordics began focusing on unscripted content last year, Sperling’s appointment hints at a potential resurgence of scripted originals in the region. This move could pave the way for exciting new developments in the streaming entertainment landscape.
