Boost for Oil & Gas Industry with New Paramount+ Show
Good day! Like many of you, I’ve been hooked on the new Landman series on Paramount+. It comes from Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind Yellowstone, and has been generating buzz since the return of Season 5, Part II of Yellowstone with free previews on Paramount TV.
For those who support the oil and gas industry, Landman offers a rare glimpse into the world of O&G workers in a more empathetic light. Despite not having direct experience in the energy sector, I deeply respect the hard work done by roughnecks and energy workers every day. It’s essential to realize how much their contributions power our daily lives, from fuel to electricity and petroleum byproducts.
The premiere on November 17th attracted 5.2 million viewers across Paramount TV and Paramount+. The show stars Billy Bob Thornton as landman Tommy Norris, alongside Ali Larter, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, and familiar faces from the Taylor Sheridan universe.
Based on the podcast series Boomtown that aired from 2019-2020, Landman dives into the wild world of West Texas, where billionaires and roughnecks are shaping an oil boom that’s impacting our climate, economy, and geopolitics. The modern-day gold rush has big oil companies and start-ups vying for a piece of the action.
I’ve had the chance to chat with some real landmen and wildcatters about the series, and they’ve shared their thoughts on whether it’s beneficial or harmful to the industry. It’s worth watching their reactions to get a better sense of the show. Taylor Sheridan is known for weaving current events, like the conservation-development debate, into his narratives, and Landman is no exception. In an episode I haven’t seen yet, Thornton’s character reportedly takes on wind turbines – something to look forward to!
