Did you tune into the season 3 premiere of The Sex Lives of College Girls? The show gave us a sneak peek at what’s in store for Renee Rapp’s character, Leighton, as she prepares to exit. Leighton discovered that Essex College in Vermont didn’t have the accelerated math class she signed up for, leading to a series of events that could take her to the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston. Interestingly, Boston is where Leighton’s girlfriend, Alicia, recently got a job. What a coincidence! It’s hard to miss the link to Rapp’s “I Hate Boston” song in this story arc.

Although Leighton might be leaving for MIT soon, Rapp, who’s 25 and rose to fame thanks to this role, will still be featured in more episodes. The actress, known for her Broadway background, has been focusing on her music career since her debut album, Snow Angel, hit the shelves in 2023.

Initially announced in December 2022, the renewal for season 3 marked another exciting chapter in the journey of The Sex Lives of College Girls. Co-created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, this teen-comedy drama follows the antics of college roommates, including Leighton (Rapp). Since its debut in 2021, the show has captivated audiences with its exploration of four freshmen students navigating their way through Essex College.

Rapp shared her decision to exit the show back in July 2023, hinting that surprises were in store for her character. Her departure was preceded by a tumultuous first year on set that she described as “terrible.” Before making her exit, Rapp reflected on her struggles, revealing that her personal life influenced her work experience. It’s not easy to say goodbye to beloved characters, and Rapp isn’t alone in leaving The Sex Lives of College Girls. Viewers were shocked when Gavin Leatherwood announced his departure from the show, confirming that he would not be reprising his role as Nico in season 2.
