Real Mormon Wives Speak Out on ‘Soft Swinging’ – Hulu Stars vs. Reality
A hit series on Hulu, “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” has been making waves and will soon be hitting the airwaves on ABC. This show has stirred up some controversy with its portrayal of Mormon women engaging in “soft swinging” and other eyebrow-raising activities, which has prompted a response from a group of devout Mormon women.
Rather than protesting, eight women from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints took matters into their own hands and penned a book titled “The Not-So-Secret Lives of REAL ‘Mormon’ Wives.” In under two months, they managed to share their stories that shed light on what life is truly like for more conservative members of the faith.
It’s worth noting that while the term “Mormon” has been used for decades, there has been a shift towards using the full and proper name of the church. This change was initiated by the group’s president and prophet, Russell M. Nelson, and reflects a desire for greater accuracy in terminology within the community.
The stories shared by these women in their book cover a wide range of experiences, from running successful businesses to raising children with special needs. For example, Fernanda Böhme, a fashion entrepreneur, tells her story of balancing a thriving business, caring for a special-needs child, and upholding her marriage all while residing in Utah.
Rather than feeling threatened by the Hulu series, Böhme sees it as an opportunity for people to ask questions and learn more about their religion. She emphasizes that the true essence of their faith can be witnessed through their actions and contributions to society.
Another woman, Kimberly DowDell, shares her journey as a mother of a Down syndrome child and a Zumba instructor. Her faith has been a source of strength throughout the challenges she’s faced, demonstrating how Mormon women navigate real-life trials with their beliefs as a guide.
These narratives aim to provide a more accurate depiction of the lives of Mormon women, countering the sensationalized portrayals seen in popular media. The hope is that by sharing their stories, these women can offer a glimpse into the diverse and meaningful experiences of those who follow the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
