Peacock Census Results at KBR Park Dec. 3
On a beautiful Sunday morning, more than 100 nature enthusiasts came together for a peacock census at KBR National Park. The exciting news is that we will find out the results on December 3 at the Peacock Festival. Last year’s count revealed 565 peacocks calling the park home.
The participants were divided into groups, including forest officials, KBR staff, walkers, and members of five NGOs like WWF India and Friends of Snakes Society. Each group followed transect lines, walking from opposite ends of the park to ensure an accurate count of peacocks.
Avinash Visvanathan from FossSociety, one of the participants, explained that these straight paths help in observing flora and fauna in a standardized way to track the peacock population. The census didn’t just focus on the forest areas but included visitor trails to cover all parts of the park where peafowl and peahen might be found.
With 565 peacocks counted last year and 550 in 2021, we are eagerly waiting to see if there has been an increase this year as well. Manjula M, the section officer in KBR National Park, mentioned that this census is an annual event and was once again a success this year. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for good news on December 3!
