Paul McCartney, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon attend Beatles ’64 premiere in New York
A brand new Disney+ documentary called Beatles ’64 is finally out, marking the unforgettable journey of the iconic Fab Four on their first U.S. visit. The premiere recently took place in New York City on Nov. 24 and some very special guests made an appearance, including legendary musician Sir Paul McCartney. Another exciting part of the evening was the attendance of John Lennon’s son, Sean Ono Lennon, and George Harrison’s widow, Olivia Harrison. Also spotted were acclaimed E Street Band guitarist, Little Steven Van Zandt, and iconic artist Elvis Costello. Martin Scorsese, the film’s producer, was also there to celebrate the special occasion.
This highly-anticipated documentary is centered around incredible footage captured by the late filmmakers Albert and David Maysles, who had the privilege of being with The Beatles throughout their eventful 14-day journey through America. The film covers their travel to various key locations like New York, where they performed on The Ed Sullivan Show and at Carnegie Hall; Washington D.C., marking their debut U.S. concert; and all the way down to Miami. The movie includes never-before-seen 17 minutes of footage, in addition to new interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as archived interviews with George Harrison and John Lennon.
What’s truly remarkable is that the musical performances featured in the film have been spectacularly restored and remixed using cutting-edge technology similar to what was used for the Get Back documentary and The Beatles’ Grammy-nominated single “Now and Then.” The premiere screening exuded an electric atmosphere with spontaneous bursts of applause from the audience following each performance. Once the film concluded, a special Q&A session was held with filmmaker Martin Scorsese, director David Tedeschi, and actor/director Ethan Hawke.
If you’re ready to relive the magic of the Beatles, mark your calendars because Beatles ’64 will exclusively stream on Disney+ starting Nov. 29. Don’t miss out on this captivating journey into music history!
