Paul McCartney, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon at Beatles ’64 Premiere in NYC
The new Disney+ documentary, Beatles ’64, which captures the Fab Four’s first trip to the U.S., had its premiere in New York City on Nov. 24. It was an exciting event with notable guests like Sir Paul McCartney, John Lennon’s son Sean Ono Lennon, and George Harrison’s widow, Olivia Harrison, all in attendance. Also spotted in the crowd were E Street Band guitarist Little Steven Van Zandt, Elvis Costello, and the film’s producer, Martin Scorsese.
The film is centered around never-before-seen footage captured by filmmakers Albert and David Maysles, who accompanied The Beatles on their 14-day journey through America. From New York to Washington D.C. to Miami, the documentary showcases the band’s iconic performances, including appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and at Carnegie Hall. The movie also features new interviews with Paul and Ringo Starr, as well as archival interviews with Harrison and Lennon.
Excitingly, the musical performances in the film have been meticulously restored and remixed using cutting-edge technology, similar to what was done for the Get Back documentary and The Beatles’ Grammy-nominated single, “Now and Then.” At the premiere, the audience couldn’t help but burst into spontaneous applause at the end of some of the performances.
Following the screening, Scorsese and director David Tedeschi took part in a lively Q&A session with actor/director Ethan Hawke. Beatles ’64 is set to stream exclusively on Disney+ starting Nov. 29, offering fans a chance to relive this historic moment in music history.
It’s clear that this documentary is a must-watch for any Beatles fan, and with its release on Disney+, it’s easily accessible for viewers to enjoy. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to dive into the magic of The Beatles and their unforgettable journey to America in 1964.
