Movie Review: Martin Scorsese Brings Beatlemania Back in New Disney+ Film
4K high-resolution, some of which was familiar to me (from 1991’s The Beatles: The First U.S. Visit) and some of which is being advertised as “never before seen.”
Additionally, Tedeschi has conducted new interviews with surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with archival chats with the late John Lennon and George Harrison. The documentary also features sound bites from fans who experienced the initial British invasion firsthand, as well as insights from various luminaries like author Joe Queenan, singer Ronnie Spector, and director David Lynch, among others.
The film primarily focuses on the Maysles’ footage of The Beatles’ 1964 trip to the United States, showcasing a more carefree side of the band during a pivotal moment in their career. While it may not offer the same fly-on-the-wall experience as Peter Jackson’s “Get Back” documentary from 2021, it provides a nostalgic look at the band’s early days and the impact of Beatlemania.
“Beatles ‘64” captures the essence of joy and exuberance that The Beatles brought to a generation, making it a worthwhile watch for fans and music enthusiasts. The documentary will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting this Friday, November 29th. If you’re a Beatles completionist or simply interested in reliving a moment in music history, this new film is sure to captivate you.
