Fans of the classic 1988 supernatural comedy “Beetlejuice” have cause for excitement as the long-awaited follow-up, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” will start streaming exclusively on Max on December 6. For those who prefer watching on HBO linear, mark your calendar for Saturday, December 7 at 6:10 p.m. ET for the premiere.

The film’s release on HBO/Max follows a successful September theatrical run that raked in over $451 million globally, making it the second highest-grossing film of Tim Burton’s career in the domestic market with over $294 million in earnings.

The sequel reunites Burton with original cast members Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and Michael Keaton. The story picks up with Lydia Deetz (Ryder) as an adult still grappling with her encounters with the mischievous ghost, Betelgeuse (Keaton). Things take a wild turn when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega), stumbles upon a mysterious model of the town in the attic, inadvertently opening a portal to the Afterlife. With chaos brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to stir up his own unique brand of mischief.

In addition to the original cast, the film introduces new faces like Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, and Monica Bellucci. The screenplay was crafted by Wednesday‘s Alfred Gough & Miles Millar, based on characters created by Michael McDowell & Larry Wilson.

Produced by Marc Toberoff, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tommy Harper, and Burton, with Sara Desmond, Katterli Frauenfelder, Gough, Millar, Larry Wilson, Laurence Senelick, and Brad Pitt as executive producers.
