Apple TV+ Wolf Sequel Cancelled by Director
The highest-viewed movie ever on Apple TV+, Wolfs, unfortunately won’t be seeing a sequel. Director Jon Watts recently confirmed that Wolfs 2 is no longer in the works, despite the success of the original film.
George Clooney and Brad Pitt starred in Apple’s most-watched TV+ movie this past fall. The sequel to Wolfs was initially announced before the film’s release in September, with Jon Watts set to lead the project.
In a recent chat with Collider’s Steve Weintraub while promoting his new Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, Watts shared that he doesn’t have his next directing project lined up—and a Wolfs sequel is off the table. He mentioned, “I don’t know what I’m directing next, and I don’t think there’s going to be a Wolfs sequel.”
The chances of a Wolfs sequel were slim from the start. Although the original movie was a hit in terms of viewership, Apple’s sudden change from a wide theatrical launch to limited distribution before debuting on Apple TV+ raised concerns. This shift likely strained the relationship between Apple and the creative team involved in the project.
While Apple has had success with TV shows, their film strategy has been a bit rocky. Most Apple movies are expected to head straight to Apple TV+ with limited theatrical releases, similar to Netflix’s approach. An exception to this plan is 2025’s F1, which Apple hopes will be its first major summer blockbuster.
Watts elaborated further on the cancellation of Wolfs 2, explaining to Deadline that he made the decision because he no longer trusted Apple as a creative partner, despite enjoying working with Clooney and Pitt.
