Apple TV+ Wolf Sequel Canceled by Director

Apple TV+ hit movie, Wolfs, is not moving forward with a sequel, according to director Jon Watts. The original movie, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, was a major success for the streaming service. Despite plans for a sequel, Watts has confirmed that Wolfs 2 has been canceled.

In an interview with Collider, Watts mentioned that he is unsure about his next project and definitively stated that there won’t be a sequel to Wolfs. This decision comes just a few months after the original film’s release and the announcement of a follow-up.

The sequel to Wolfs faced challenges from the start, even though the first movie did well in terms of viewership. Apple’s last-minute decision to change its theatrical release strategy may have played a role in the cancellation. Originally planned for a wide theatrical launch, Wolfs was ultimately only given limited theatrical distribution before becoming available on Apple TV+.

It has been suggested that the change in release strategy impacted the relationship between Apple and the creative team behind Wolfs, including the actors and director. While Apple has been successful with TV shows, the company has faced challenges in the film industry. Most of Apple’s movies are now expected to go straight to Apple TV+, with few receiving theatrical releases.

Jon Watts later clarified to Deadline that he made the decision to cancel the sequel because he no longer trusted Apple as a creative partner. Despite his positive experience working with Clooney and Pitt, Watts felt that it was best to move on from the project.
