Marvel’s Young Avengers Project Renamed to Champions and Set to Become a Series
Marvel Studios is making a change with their upcoming Young Avengers project, shifting from a feature film to a Disney+ series. Insider Daniel Richtman recently shared on Patreon that the project has been retitled Champions. The reason behind this shift is that some of the actors involved are no longer considered “young,” and the decision was also influenced by The Marvels’ underperformance at the box office.
In this new series, Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld, is said to be the leader of the Champions. Other team members include Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Wiccan (Joe Locke), Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), Speed (yet to be cast), Hulkling (potentially introduced in future projects), and Viv (also yet to be cast).
In a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Vellani mentioned that she would like to see Kamala Khan leading the Young Avengers. She shared that she and Hailee had a great time working together. Vellani also spoke about a post-credits scene in The Marvels, where Kamala invites Kate to join a ‘Young Avengers’ initiative, highlighting the fun dynamic between the characters.
Production on the Champions series is set to begin in late 2025 or early 2026, with Marvel Studios currently on the lookout for a showrunner. Recently, characters America Chavez, Riri Williams, and Cassie Lang were seen together at the “Worlds of Marvel” restaurant on the Disney Treasure cruise, raising excitement for the upcoming series. Keep an eye out for more updates on this highly anticipated project!
