Apple Original Films reveals sequel to ‘The Family Plan’ with Mark Wahlberg

Apple Original Films has announced plans for a sequel to its popular film "The Family Plan," with Mark Wahlberg set to produce and reprise his role as Dan Morgan. The action-comedy feature, directed by Simon Cellan Jones, originally premiered as the most-watched film on Apple TV+ following its debut last year.

Wahlberg expressed his excitement about returning to the role of Dan Morgan, stating, “Making ‘The Family Plan’ and seeing it become an instant success with global audiences in the way that it did has been incredibly rewarding. We can’t wait to collaborate with our partners at Apple and Skydance again on this next chapter for the Morgan family as their European holiday inevitably goes awry.”

Director Simon Cellan Jones also shared his enthusiasm for reuniting with the Morgans as they embark on a thrilling adventure through Europe in search of the perfect action-packed family Christmas.

The sequel, penned by David Coggeshall, is set during Christmas in Europe, where Dan’s meticulously planned vacation for the Morgans takes unexpected turns as his past resurfaces.

The upcoming sequel to "The Family Plan" will be produced by Skydance Media, with Cellan Jones returning as director. The production team includes David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger from Skydance, along with Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson through Municipal Pictures. John G. Scotti will serve as executive producer alongside Cellan Jones.

The success of "The Family Plan" sequel adds to the growing momentum of Apple Original Films, with a lineup that includes other highly anticipated projects such as "The Gorge," starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy; "Fountain of Youth," featuring Natalie Portman and John Krasinski; "May Day," with Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh in lead roles; "Way of the Warrior Kid," directed by McG and starring Chris Pratt; and "Matchbox," a live-action film based on Mattel’s iconic toy line, directed by Sam Hargrave and starring John Cena.

Apple TV+ continues to expand its offerings with recent premieres like "Wolfs," starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, and "The Instigators," featuring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. Upcoming releases include the highly anticipated "Blitz" from Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen, "The Gorge" with a star-studded cast, and "F1" starring Brad Pitt.

The announcement of the "The Family Plan" sequel underscores Apple’s commitment to delivering compelling original content to audiences worldwide, further solidifying its position in the streaming landscape.
