Disney+ Acquires Prince William Documentary in Streaming Battle Royal
America now has a choice when it comes to behind-the-scenes access to royals on streaming platforms. In a significant move, Disney+ has acquired a two-part documentary featuring Prince William. The documentary, titled "Prince William: We Can End Homelessness," showcases the Prince of Wales launching his Royal Foundation’s Homewards program, aimed at eradicating homelessness in the U.K.
Following Prince William and the Homewards program on their mission to end homelessness, the documentary takes viewers through six locations in the U.K. The Prince’s commitment to the cause is evident as he decides to construct supported housing on his own land. The documentary is set to premiere on Disney+ on November 1 and will first air on ITV in the U.K. "Prince William: We Can End Homelessness" is executive produced by Mindhouse and Arron Fellows, with BAFTA award-winning Director Leo Burley at the helm.
Notably, the documentary has already generated buzz in the U.K. for featuring Prince William speaking publicly about his brother, Prince Harry, for the first time in years. In a poignant moment, William recalls a childhood memory when Princess Diana, their mother, took them to a homeless center in London. Reflecting on the experience, William shared, “My mother took me to The Passage [the homeless shelter], she took Harry and I both there. I must have been 11 at the time, maybe 10. I had never been to anything like that before, and I was a bit anxious about what to expect.”
While Prince Harry now resides in the U.S. with his wife, Meghan Markle, and has a content partnership with Netflix, Prince William’s documentary on Disney+ offers American viewers a royal choice in their streaming selections. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been involved in various projects for Netflix, including a docuseries, and have also ventured into podcasting with a former deal with Spotify. However, it is worth noting that their Spotify agreement was not renewed last year.
With Prince William’s documentary on Disney+, viewers in the U.S. can now witness the royal family’s endeavors through different streaming platforms. This addition provides an insightful look into Prince William’s philanthropic efforts and sheds light on the important issue of homelessness in the U.K.
