Unable to Subscribe to Hulu or Disney+ on Apple’s App Store

Disney-owned platforms, including Disney+ and Hulu, have recently announced a significant change in their sign-up process for new subscribers. Individuals looking to join these streaming services will no longer be able to do so through Apple’s App Store. Instead, they are encouraged to visit the platforms’ websites directly to sign up. This decision was made in response to Apple’s practice of taking a 30 percent cut on purchases made through iOS apps, which can significantly impact the profits of developers and large companies like Disney.

While existing customers can still manage their subscriptions through Apple, Hulu has stated that those who wish to avoid being billed by Apple must subscribe directly through Hulu. This change may require customers to cancel their current subscription and sign up again through the platform’s website. Additionally, Apple-billed subscribers are now limited to two options offered by Hulu: Hulu with or without ads. Subscribers looking to access Live TV and add-ons will need to do so through Hulu’s website.

This alteration in the sign-up process coincides with price increases for Disney+ and Hulu. In August, it was announced that the ad-supported Disney+ Basic and Hulu plans would see a monthly increase to $10 from $8, while the ad-free Disney+ Premium plan would rise to $16 from $14 per month. The ad-free Hulu plan is now priced at $20 per month, up from $18.
