‘Twisters’ Announces Streaming Release Date on Peacock for Upcoming Launch

The highly anticipated movie "Twisters" featuring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell is set to make its streaming debut on Peacock. The film initially hit theaters on July 19 and wrapped up its theatrical run on October 10. According to box office data from The Numbers, "Twisters" raked in an impressive $369.9 million globally, surpassing its $155 million production budget.

A sequel to the 1996 blockbuster "Twister," this standalone film was distributed by Universal Pictures. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, "Twisters" follows the story of former storm chaser Kate Carter (Edgar-Jones) and social media star Tyler Owens (Powell) as they navigate unprecedented and terrifying weather phenomena. The narrative unfolds as they confront multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma, leading to a battle for survival.

In addition to Edgar-Jones and Powell, the cast includes Anthony Ramos as Javi, Kate’s former storm-chasing partner. The official logline teases a gripping storyline where the characters find themselves in the eye of the storm.

While there is no direct narrative connection to the original "Twister" film starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, "Twisters" pays homage to its predecessor. Daisy Edgar-Jones mentioned in an interview that the film incorporates elements like Dorothy, the weather sensor device, and nods to iconic moments and costumes from the original movie.

Notably, James Paxton, son of the late Bill Paxton, makes a special appearance in "Twisters" as a tribute to his father, who starred in the original film. James Paxton’s cameo serves as an Easter egg for fans, adding a sentimental touch to the production.

Rated PG-13, "Twisters" is available for digital streaming through premium video on demand and is scheduled for release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. The film will premiere on Peacock’s streaming platform on November 15, offering viewers an opportunity to experience the thrilling sequel from the comfort of their homes.
