Popular TV Shows ‘Monk’ and ‘Doctor Foster’ to be Adapted in India and Greece at MIPCOM

The international television market at MIPCOM in Cannes showcased exciting news of upcoming adaptations of popular shows Monk and Doctor Foster. Banijay Asia and Disney+ Hotstar introduced an Indian version of Monk, the well-loved comedy crime detective series originally aired on USA Network. This Indian adaptation marks the first Asian rendition of Monk and will be streaming exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar and Hulu.

Deepak Dhar, CEO of Banijay Asia, expressed confidence in the Indian adaptation, citing the success of previous adaptations like The Good Wife and The Night Manager in resonating with local audiences. The adaptation of Monk in India adds to the growing list of international versions of the show, with a Turkish adaptation being the only other one worldwide.

On the other hand, BBC Studios Global Entertainment unveiled a Greek adaptation of the acclaimed drama Doctor Foster. The original British series follows Gemma Foster, played by Suranne Jones, as she navigates suspicions of her husband’s infidelity. The psychological thriller has garnered significant international interest, leading to adaptations in over a dozen countries.

The Greek version of Doctor Foster, titled Paihnidia Ekdikisis (Revenge Games), will feature Marilita Lambropoulou and Nikos Kouris in the lead roles. ANT1 TV and ANT1+ are set to premiere the Greek adaptation in Spring 2025. Additionally, BBC Studios announced a Greek adaptation of their comedy series Ghosts, to be produced by Tanweer Productions for Star Channel.

These adaptations highlight the global appeal of popular television shows and the creativity in reimagining them for diverse audiences. The announcements at MIPCOM underscore the thriving business of adapting successful series for different markets, offering viewers around the world unique interpretations of beloved stories.
