Mike Flanagan Working on Carrie TV Series for Prime Video

Mike Flanagan, known for his work on "The Haunting of Hill House," is set to take on a new project for Prime Video. He is currently developing a television adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic 1974 novel, "Carrie." This news has been confirmed by TVLine.

Flanagan’s adaptation is described as a "bold and timely reimagining" of the classic story of Carrie White, a high school misfit who has led a secluded life under the control of her domineering mother. Following her father’s sudden death, Carrie must navigate the challenges of public high school, a bullying scandal that rocks her community, and the discovery of her mysterious telekinetic abilities.

In this upcoming eight-episode series, Flanagan will take on multiple roles, serving as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer. He will be joined by his business partner, Trevor Macy, who is also on board as an executive producer for the project.

"Carrie" marked Stephen King’s debut novel and quickly became a best-seller. The book was first adapted into a film in 1976, directed by Brian De Palma and starring Sissy Spacek in the titular role. A sequel titled "The Rage: Carrie 2" was released in 1999, with Amy Irving reprising her role as Sue Snell. Subsequent adaptations include a TV movie in 2002 and a remake in 2013 featuring Chloë Grace Moretz.

Flanagan has a history of delving into the world of Stephen King’s works, having previously adapted "Doctor Sleep" and "Gerald’s Game" into feature films. Additionally, it was announced in 2022 that he would be developing a TV series based on King’s "Dark Tower" for Prime Video.

The news of Flanagan’s involvement in the "Carrie" adaptation was first reported by Deadline. Fans of Flanagan and King’s works are eagerly anticipating this fresh take on the classic tale. Are you looking forward to Flanagan’s version of "Carrie"? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
