Hulu Lands Streaming Deal for StudioCanal’s Paris Has Fallen Series
Hulu has struck a deal to bring StudioCanal’s popular series, "Paris Has Fallen," to American audiences. The show, based on Gerard Butler’s action franchise, has been a major success in France on the Canal+ streaming platform. "Paris Has Fallen" is an extension of Butler’s "Has Fallen" film series, which includes titles like "Olympus Has Fallen," "London Has Fallen," and "Angel Has Fallen."
According to reports from Deadline, Hulu will be offering the series to viewers in the United States later this year. StudioCanal has also inked agreements with other international streaming platforms, such as Amazon Prime Video in the UK and Ireland, as well as SBS in Australia.
The plot of "Paris Has Fallen" centers around a terrorist group led by the villainous Jacob Pearce, played by Sean Harris, targeting a high-profile event with the French Minister of Defence in their crosshairs. Vincent Taleb, a protection officer, teams up with MI6 operative Zara Taylor, portrayed by Ritu Arya, to thwart the attack. As events take a dark turn, Vincent and Zara realize the threat goes beyond one politician, leading them to suspect a mole within their security ranks.
Anne Chérel, StudioCanal’s chief commercial officer, highlighted the significance of the "Has Fallen" franchise to Hulu, emphasizing the familiarity and appeal of the series to the platform’s audience. Chloe Marquet, StudioCanal’s head of international sales for films and TV series, noted that Hulu was drawn to the show’s blend of classic action with a contemporary twist, likening it to a modern take on the iconic "Die Hard" concept.
Looking ahead, Chérel expressed hopes that the success of "Paris Has Fallen" will pave the way for future installments set in other captivating cities. While Gerard Butler is not expected to appear in the series, he serves as one of its executive producers. Despite reports of a potential fourth film installment titled "Night Has Fallen," details on the project have been scarce since its announcement in 2020.
"Paris Has Fallen" is set to premiere on Canal+ on September 23, offering American viewers a taste of the action-packed series that has captivated audiences across the Atlantic.
