Millie Bobby Brown Reveals 19 Steps to Adapt Her World War II Novel for Netflix

Millie Bobby Brown, known for her roles in “Stranger Things” and “Enola Holmes,” is teaming up with Netflix to adapt her debut novel, Nineteen Steps, for the screen. The actress will not only produce the project but is also set to star in it. The screenplay for the film is penned by Anthony McCarten, known for his work on “The Theory of Everything.”

Published by William Morrow, Nineteen Steps achieved bestseller status on both the New York Times and Sunday Times lists. Brown collaborated with Kathleen McGurl to bring the story to life, focusing on the character of Mellie Morris, an 18-year-old residing in the East London neighborhood of Bethnal Green.

The novel is set in 1942 during World War II, amidst the constant wail of air raid sirens in London. The protagonist, Nellie Morris, finds herself enchanted by a chance encounter with an American airman named Ray, leading her to envision a broader world beyond her own. However, a tragic incident during an air raid shatters her newfound happiness. Despite the turmoil, Nellie discovers that love and hope can prevail against all odds.

Apart from her involvement in “Nineteen Steps,” Millie Bobby Brown is a versatile talent in Hollywood. She recently starred in Netflix’s “Damsel” and is gearing up for the third installment of the “Enola Holmes” series. Additionally, Brown is set to feature in Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming project, “The Electric State,” a dystopian sci-fi adventure featuring a stellar cast including Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, and Jenny Slate.
