Dia Mirza fulfills dream of collaborating with Vijay Varma

Actress Dia Mirza is gearing up for the release of the upcoming series ‘IC814’ and has showered praise on her co-actor Vijay Varma. The recently unveiled trailer of the series delves into the harrowing tale of the hijack of Indian Airlines Flight 814 by Pakistani militants belonging to the terrorist group Harkat-ul-Mujahideen.

During the Malhar Film Festival, Dia Mirza commended Vijay Varma’s immersive approach towards his role in the series. She lauded his unwavering dedication to portraying the character authentically, noting that she never saw him break character throughout the entire filming process. Speaking about Varma, she expressed her admiration, stating, “This guy has stayed in one space for his entire shoot. It was my dream to work with Vijay. On paper, we are part of the same story, but I never saw him at work. I have to find a way to make sure I get to work with him because I’m such a huge fan.”

Directed by Anubhav Sinha, known for his work on acclaimed films like ‘Thappad’, ‘Mulk’, and ‘Article 15’, ‘IC814’ is centered around the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814 shortly after its entry into Indian airspace. The hijackers orchestrated a series of demands, instructing the plane to land in various locations including Amritsar, Lahore, and across the Persian Gulf and Dubai, before ultimately landing in Kandahar, Afghanistan, under Taliban control.

During the hijack ordeal, the perpetrators released 27 out of the 176 passengers in Dubai, but tragically, one passenger was fatally stabbed, and several others sustained injuries. The primary objective behind the hijacking was to secure the release of Islamist terrorists imprisoned in India, notably including Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, Masood Azhar, and Kashmiri militant Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, all of whom have been linked to various terrorist activities, such as the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, the 2002 kidnapping and murder of journalist Daniel Pearl, the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, the 2016 Pathankot attack, and the 2019 Pulwama attack.

‘IC814’ is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on September 29, offering viewers a gripping portrayal of the tragic events surrounding the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814 and the subsequent impact on the passengers and crew aboard the ill-fated flight.
