Anubhav Sinha Approved My Take on Kandahar Hijacking in Conversation with Vishal Bhardwaj
Anubhav Sinha recently shared insights into his involvement with the shelved project on the Kandahar hijacking by Vishal Bhardwaj. Sinha revealed that he became aware of Bhardwaj’s project only after he had already boarded “IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack.” The Netflix series, based on the 1999 hijacking of an Indian aircraft by five terrorists shortly after departing from Kathmandu, is set to premiere on August 29.
Last year, Bhardwaj disclosed that his project on the Kandahar hijacking was abandoned by Prime Video amidst political controversies surrounding “Tandav.” Sinha mentioned that he had discussions with Bhardwaj about his take on the event, receiving approval and appreciation for his perspective.
Monika Shergill from Netflix shared that they encountered Captain Devi Sharan in 2019, unaware that another project was in the works on the same narrative. The Netflix series draws inspiration from Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury’s book, “Flight Into Fear.”
Shedding light on the collaboration, Shergill emphasized the importance of having the right individuals involved in the project. Despite initial hesitance, Sinha eventually came on board after multiple discussions and encouragement from Shergill.
The series aims to provide a fresh perspective on the Kandahar hijacking incident, focusing on the human aspect of the story. Titled “IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack,” the show boasts a talented cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Vijay Varma, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Arvind Swamy, Dia Mirza, and Patralekhaa.
The adaptation of this significant event into a series underscores the collaborative efforts and creative vision behind bringing this story to life on screen. With a blend of talent and dedication, the team behind “IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack” endeavors to offer viewers a compelling and immersive retelling of this historical event.
