Actress Millie Bobby Brown to Bring Her Book ‘Nineteen Steps’ to Life as Netflix Movie

Millie Bobby Brown, known for her role in the hit series “Stranger Things,” is set to bring her debut novel, “Nineteen Steps,” to life on the big screen through Netflix. Brown, who rose to fame with the Netflix series, has a strong connection with the streaming platform. She has previously collaborated with Netflix on projects like “Enola Holmes” and “Damsel.” The adaptation of “Nineteen Steps” will be produced by Brown’s company PCMA Productions, and there are discussions for her to take on a role in the film.

The novel, published in September 2023, is a World War II-era story inspired by Brown’s grandmother’s experiences. Set in the east London neighborhood of Bethnal Green, the narrative revolves around 18-year-old Nellie Morris and her romance with an American airman named Ray. The plot takes a dramatic turn when Nellie survives the Bethnal Green Tube disaster, a tragic event during an air raid that claimed the lives of 173 civilians seeking shelter.

Screenwriter Anthony McCarten, known for his work on “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Darkest Hour,” is tasked with adapting the novel into a screenplay. Jonathan Eirich from Rideback will produce the film, with Nick Reynolds serving as the executive producer. Dan Lin, Netflix’s film chief, founded Rideback, the production company behind successful films like “It,” “The Lego Movie,” and “Aladdin.”

At just 20 years old, Brown has garnered critical acclaim for her role as Eleven in “Stranger Things,” earning two Emmy nominations. The popular series is expected to conclude with a fifth and final season in 2025. Brown has also appeared in blockbuster films like “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” and “Godzilla vs. Kong.” Her upcoming projects include “The Electric State,” a science-fiction adventure directed by the Russo brothers and featuring a star-studded cast including Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, and Jenny Slate.
