Max SharePlay feature now accessible to ad-free subscribers globally
Max SharePlay, a feature that allows ad-free subscribers worldwide to host watch parties using iMessage or FaceTime on compatible Apple devices, is now available globally. Initially launched for US subscribers in 2022, SharePlay enables users with ad-free plans and Apple devices to sync up and watch HBO Max content together while on a FaceTime call.
StreamOnMax has announced that all ad-free and ultimate ad-free subscribers can now utilize SharePlay on Apple devices. This feature allows subscribers to enjoy shows like “House of Dragon” and upcoming series such as “Industry HBO” and “The Penguin” with friends and family over FaceTime.
Engadget explains the functionality of SharePlay, detailing that users can start watching with friends by selecting the “share” button on the details section of a title or within the FaceTime app. Each session can accommodate up to 32 participants, all of whom must be Max subscribers. SharePlay is compatible with iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, and Vision Pro headsets. To initiate a watch party on iPhones, iPads, and Vision Pros, users need to locate the Share icon on the show or movie details page, select contacts to share with, and start a FaceTime call. If opting for Messages on mobile devices, friends will receive an invitation to join SharePlay. On Apple TV, users must open FaceTime before selecting the SharePlay button and choosing Max from the app list.
