Max enhances SharePlay feature for Apple devices worldwide
Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, has expanded its SharePlay feature to Apple devices globally. Initially launched alongside the redesigned app, SharePlay was limited to Apple devices in the United States. However, Max has now announced that SharePlay is accessible to all Max users with Apple devices who are subscribed to the Ad-Free and Ultimate Ad-Free plans.
This expansion means that users in countries where Max is available can now enjoy watching content together with friends and family on their Apple devices. SharePlay ensures that playback is synchronized for all participants invited to the viewing session.
To utilize SharePlay, participants need an Apple device such as an iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, or Apple Vision Pro, along with either an Ad-Free or Ultimate Ad-Free plan and the Max app with an Adult profile.
To start a SharePlay session, users need to follow these steps:
– Open the Max app on their iPhone and select content to watch.
– On the content details page, tap the Share icon and choose SharePlay.
– Enter the contacts to share with and select Messages or FaceTime.
– If Messages is chosen, contacts will receive a message to join SharePlay. If FaceTime is selected, they will receive a FaceTime call.
– Click Watch Now to commence the SharePlay session.
Participants joining via FaceTime should choose Open and then Join SharePlay, while those invited via message conversation can tap the show or movie title in the Messages conversation and select Open to join.
Additionally, users can switch to their Apple TV from their iPhone or iPad by selecting the AirPlay icon in the Max app. It’s important to note that SharePlay sessions can include subscribers from any country where HBO is available, with a limit of 32 participants per session.
