Discovery+ Enhances Experience with Timeline Highlights, Gold Medal Alerts, and More

Warner Bros. Discovery is gearing up for the upcoming Olympics by introducing a host of new features across its streaming services. As the Paris 2024 Games approach, viewers can expect an extensive lineup of live content, with a whopping 3,800 hours set to be broadcasted on platforms such as discovery+, Max, and HBO Max. During the peak of the event, 54 simultaneous live streams will be available for audiences to enjoy.

In a bid to enhance the viewing experience, Warner Bros. Discovery is collaborating with YouTube and Snapchat to bring the Olympic content to a wider audience. Additionally, the company has rolled out new features on its platforms, including timeline highlight markers. This feature, previously seen on the BT Sport app, allows viewers to backtrack to specific moments in the timeline to catch up on highlights of the action they may have missed.

The timeline highlight markers will be accessible on both web and mobile apps for 15 sports featured in the Olympics, including beach volleyball, athletics, swimming, and basketball, among others. This innovation aims to provide viewers with a more interactive and engaging way to follow their favorite sports during the Games.

Furthermore, Warner Bros. Discovery is introducing in-app pop-ups for mobile and web users, as well as an in-stream ‘rail’ that showcases other live events, making it easier for viewers to navigate between different streams without interrupting their viewing experience. The company is also focusing on localizing the content by offering multi-audio feeds in up to 20 languages for the majority of the 329 events scheduled for the Paris 2024 Games.

The app will recommend specially curated live, upcoming, and on-demand videos featuring Olympic athletes from the users’ country, providing a personalized touch to the viewing experience. Additionally, each sport will have its dedicated in-app page, with viewers in the UK and Germany having access to pages dedicated to Team GB and Germany, respectively.

Scott Young, the group SVP of content, production, and business operations at WBD Sports Europe, expressed excitement about the upcoming coverage of the Games. He highlighted the company’s direct-to-consumer strategy as a key driver of growth and emphasized the immersive experience that viewers can expect on the streaming platforms. With a commitment to engaging Olympic viewers like never before, Warner Bros. Discovery aims to deliver compelling content that captures the essence of the Games and the stories of the athletes, ensuring a memorable streaming experience for audiences across Europe.
