Warner Bros. Discover (WBD) is set to provide an extensive 3,800 hours of live coverage during the upcoming Paris Olympics, which will run from July 24 to August 11. This coverage will be available to subscribers of its Max, HBO Max, and discovery+ streaming services in select European countries.
The company’s direct-to-consumer strategy has been a key driver of its growth, with the subscription journey of customers to Max in various European markets proving to be a significant success. Discover aims to offer viewers the opportunity to watch every event, every athlete, and every moment of Paris 2024 live, creating an unparalleled viewing experience that is expected to attract a larger audience than ever before.
In an effort to enhance the viewing experience, WBD will introduce several features as part of its coverage, including timeline markers for 15 sports, allowing fans to navigate back through event timelines to key moments. Additionally, users will receive gold medal alerts through in-app pop-ups, personalized watchlists, and an in-play discovery rail to easily switch between live events. The coverage will be available in up to 20 languages, ensuring a broad reach across the 329 events.
Furthermore, viewers can expect comprehensive companion coverage with curated highlights of the games via live feeds of Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, alongside streams of every event. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be broadcast uninterrupted in HDR in all markets, with additional HDR coverage of selected sports and events available in some regions.
Other features include an in-player discovery rail and the inclusion of Olympic Games coverage in the standard pricing plans for Max, HBO Max, and discovery+. In a recent announcement, WBD revealed the expansion of Max availability to 25 European countries, including Iberia, France, Benelux, Nordics, Central, and Eastern Europe, with HBO Max launching in the Netherlands and Belgium.
