Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, and Ashley Walters join ‘Adolescence’ one-shot Netflix series by ‘Boiling Point’ creators and Brad Pitt’s Plan B

Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, and Erin Doherty are set to star in a new Netflix series titled Adolescence, created by the minds behind Boiling Point and co-produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment. The Irishman actor, Graham, is not only taking on a leading role but also involved in creating and writing the series alongside Jack Thorne, with Philip Barantini stepping in as the director.

Adolescence was introduced to audiences at a Netflix UK showcase earlier this year, offering a glimpse into the gripping narrative that follows the Miller family as their lives are thrown into disarray when 13-year-old Jamie Miller, played by Owen Cooper, is arrested and accused of the murder of a fellow schoolmate. Graham portrays Eddie Miller, Jamie’s father and the ‘appropriate adult’, while Walters takes on the role of Detective Inspector Bascombe, and Doherty embodies Briony Ariston, the clinical psychologist assigned to Jamie’s case.

Currently in production in the UK, Adolescence follows the unique filmmaking approach seen in Boiling Point, where each episode is shot in a single continuous take, capturing the intensity of the unfolding drama in real-time, focusing on the characters and their experiences.

The series promises to showcase the talents of Walters, known for his role as Dushane Hill in Top Boy, and Doherty, recognized for her portrayal of Princess Anne in The Crown’s third and fourth seasons, bringing together stars from two of Netflix’s popular productions.

Plan B is spearheading the production in collaboration with Warp Films, Matriarch Productions, One Shoe Films, and It’s All Made Up. The impressive lineup of executive producers includes Mark Herbert, Emily Feller, Stephen Graham, Hannah Walters, Jack Thorne, Philip Barantini, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner, and Nina Wolarsky, with Jo Johnson serving as the producer.

Adolescence promises to be a thrilling and immersive series that delves into the complexities of family dynamics, crime, and the criminal justice system, offering viewers a unique and captivating viewing experience.
