New Streaming Innovations Unveiled for 2024 Olympics by WBD

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has announced a range of innovative streaming features and enhancements for its broadcast of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Among the new offerings are timeline markers, gold medal alerts, and more interactive elements designed to enhance the viewing experience for fans.

One of the key features introduced is timeline markers, which allow viewers to easily navigate back through an event timeline to important moments. This feature is accessible across all platforms for users of discovery+, the streaming service, and covers a wide array of sports, including beach volleyball, handball, and tennis.

In addition to timeline markers, in-app pop-ups will notify fans across all platforms when a gold medal is on the verge of being won. Subscribers can seamlessly switch between events and return to previous streams. The in-player discovery rail will showcase other live events happening concurrently, providing viewers with a comprehensive overview of the sporting action.

Subscribers will also benefit from multi-audio feeds offering a selection of up to 20 languages for the majority of the 329 events scheduled to take place during the Paris 2024 Olympics. Eurosport’s coverage of all 32 sports will feature over 400 commentators who will narrate the stories of the 10,500 athletes competing in the games.

To facilitate easy navigation, all 32 sports will have a dedicated in-app page to help users locate events throughout the duration of the games. Additionally, discovery+ subscribers in the U.K. will have access to a specialized page dedicated to Team GB, providing them with tailored content and coverage.

Viewers will be able to stream the Olympic Games via various platforms, including Max, HBO Max, and discovery+, depending on their location and subscription preferences.

Scott Young, the group’s senior VP of content, production, and business operations at WBD Sports Europe, emphasized the importance of the direct-to-consumer strategy in driving growth and engaging customers. He highlighted the success of the subscription journey to Max in European markets and expressed excitement about bringing the world’s premier sporting event to Max for the first time. Young emphasized that the extensive coverage offered by WBD will attract a larger audience than ever before and create a compelling viewing experience for Olympic enthusiasts across Europe.
