Tabu appears in new teaser for HBO Max show ‘Dune: Prophecy’
HBO Max’s “Dune: Prophecy” series, a prequel to the popular “Dune” movies directed by Denis Villeneuve, has unveiled its second teaser, giving viewers a glimpse of Bollywood actress Tabu in the role of Sister Francesca.
The teaser was released by the Warner Bros Discovery-owned streaming service, announcing that the six-episode series is scheduled to debut in November this year. Tabu, internationally recognized for her work in films like “The Namesake” and “Life of Pi,” as well as the BBC miniseries “A Suitable Boy,” makes a cameo appearance towards the end of the teaser clip.
Sister Francesca, portrayed by Tabu, is described as a character who is strong, intelligent, and alluring, leaving a lasting impact wherever she goes. The show’s creators hinted at her character’s significance by stating, “Once a great love of the Emperor, her return to the palace strains the balance of power in the capital.”
Set 10,000 years before the events of Frank Herbert’s iconic novel “Dune,” recently adapted into two films by Villeneuve, “Dune: Prophecy” is based on the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson. The series was initially named “Dune: The Sisterhood” before being rebranded.
The storyline of “Dune: Prophecy” revolves around two Harkonnen sisters as they navigate challenges endangering the future of humanity and establish the legendary sect that will later be known as the Bene Gesserit. Apart from Tabu, the series features a star-studded cast including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Jessica Barden, and Shalom Brune-Franklin.
Alison Schapker serves as the showrunner and executive producer of the series, alongside Diane Ademu-John, who played a key role in developing the show. “Dune: Prophecy” is a collaborative effort between HBO and Legendary Television.
The series promises to delve into the intricate world of “Dune” lore, expanding on the rich universe created by Frank Herbert. With a talented ensemble cast and a compelling narrative, “Dune: Prophecy” is poised to captivate audiences with its exploration of power, politics, and the enigmatic Sisterhood of Dune.
The anticipation for the series continues to build as fans eagerly await its premiere later this year.
