First Look at Tabu’s Character Revealed in Teaser for HBO Max’s ‘Dune Prophecy’ Series

HBO Max recently unveiled the second teaser for its highly anticipated series, Dune: Prophecy. Serving as a prequel to the successful Dune movie directed by Denis Villeneuve, the teaser provided fans with a first look at Bollywood actress Tabu in her role as Sister Francesca.

The initial trailer for the Dune: Prophecy series was released by The Warner Bros Discovery on July 18. Scheduled to consist of six episodes, the show is set to debut in November of this year. Tabu, recognized globally for her roles in acclaimed films like The Namesake and Life of Pi, was also featured in the BBC miniseries A Suitable Boy within the teaser’s conclusion.

In the upcoming series, Tabu portrays the character of Sister Francesca, described as a strong, intelligent, and captivating woman who significantly impacts the power dynamics within the palace. The narrative unfolds 10,000 years before the events chronicled in Frank Herbert’s renowned book ‘Dune,’ which was adapted into two parts by Villeneuve.

The cast of the Dune: Prophecy series includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofia Boussnina, Jessica Barden, and Shalom Brune-Franklin. The show was co-developed by Diane Ademu-John and showrunner Alison Schapker, with HBO and Legendary Television collaborating on its production.

The series was originally titled Dune: The Sisterhood before being rebranded as Dune: Prophecy. Drawing inspiration from the novel Sisterhood of Dune penned by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson, the storyline delves into the narrative of two Harkonnen sisters as they combat threats to humanity’s future and establish the fabled order of the Bene Gesserit.

In the previous Dune films released in 2021 and 2023, Charlotte Rampling portrayed Reverend Mother Mohiam, while Rebecca Ferguson embodied the character of Lady Jessica, the Bene Gesserit mother of the protagonist Paul, played by Timothee Chalamet.

The sci-fi series promises an intriguing exploration of power, politics, and the supernatural, with a stellar ensemble cast and a creative team dedicated to bringing this captivating world to life on screen. Viewers can anticipate a gripping and visually stunning narrative as Dune: Prophecy unfolds its tale of intrigue and destiny.
