Netflix Dominates Emmy Nominations; FX Follows Closely With Record Haul, Surpassing HBO

The landscape of Emmy nominations has shifted once again, with Netflix emerging as the leader in nominations this year. Netflix secured a total of 107 nominations, surpassing FX and HBO/Max to claim the top spot. FX followed closely behind with 93 nominations, marking its highest number of nominations ever. This surge in nominations for FX was largely fueled by the success of shows like Shōgun and The Bear, which helped the network eclipse its previous record set in 2016.

In comparison, HBO and its sister streamer received a combined total of 91 nominations this year. This marks a decline from the 127 nominations they received last year, where they outpaced Netflix. The competition for Emmy nominations has been fierce between Netflix, HBO/Max, and other networks in recent years.

FX’s success this year can be attributed to its diverse lineup of acclaimed shows. The network garnered attention with 23 nominations for The Bear, 25 for Shōgun, and notable nominations for shows like Fargo and Feud: Capote vs The Swans. On the other hand, HBO/Max received recognition for shows like Hacks and True Detective: Night Country.

The Emmy nominations also highlighted the performance of Apple TV+, which received a total of 70 nominations this year. The streaming service saw an increase in nominations compared to previous years, with standout shows like Lessons in Chemistry, The Morning Show, Palm Royale, and Slow Horses contributing to its success.

Broadcast networks like ABC and CBS, as well as streaming platforms like Prime Video, also secured a significant number of nominations this year. ABC and CBS each received 38 nominations, while Prime Video received 37 nominations for shows like Fallout and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Overall, the Emmy nominations reflect the evolving landscape of television, with a mix of traditional networks, streaming services, and platforms receiving recognition for their compelling content. The Walt Disney Company, which encompasses ABC, FX, Disney+, and Hulu, received a total of 183 Emmy nominations, marking a record-breaking achievement for the entertainment giant. As the Emmy Awards approach, the competition among networks and streaming services is set to intensify, showcasing the diverse and innovative content being produced across the television industry.
