HBO Originals: The Penguin and Dune Prophecy Adaptations

HBO is adding two new Originals to its lineup with the inclusion of The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy. This move comes after Warner Bros. Discovery announced the transition of three Max Originals to HBO Originals earlier this year.

The Penguin is a limited series that serves as a spin-off to the 2022 film, The Batman. The show features Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, alongside a star-studded cast including Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Clancy Brown, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Mark Strong, Theo Rossi, and more. Set in the aftermath of The Batman, the series follows Farrell’s character as he attempts to seize control of Gotham’s criminal underworld. Fans can catch The Penguin when it premieres on September 9, 2024.

Dune: Prophecy, on the other hand, is a prequel series tied to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films. The show boasts a diverse ensemble cast featuring Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha. The storyline, set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ rise, revolves around two Harkonnen sisters battling forces that threaten humanity’s future while laying the groundwork for the Bene Gesserit sect. Inspired by the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, Dune: Prophecy is slated for a fall premiere.

The decision to rebrand these high-profile titles as HBO Originals aligns with Warner Bros. Discovery’s strategy to give them exposure on both the premium cable network and streaming platforms. This move aims to enhance the visibility and reach of these anticipated series among audiences.

As viewers eagerly anticipate the premieres of The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy, the shift to HBO Originals signals a promising future for these captivating shows. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting additions to HBO’s Originals roster.
