HBO Originals Rebrand ‘The Penguin’ and ‘Dune: Prophecy’
Warner Bros. Discovery is making a strategic shift with its HBO Originals lineup, bringing two new series, “The Penguin” and “Dune: Prophecy,” to HBO Max. This move follows the successful transition of three Max originals, including “Harry Potter,” the DC series “Lanterns,” and the “IT” prequel “Welcome to Derry,” into the HBO originals category.
Initially, there were concerns about the international licensing process affecting the availability of “The Penguin” and “Dune: Prophecy” for this transition. However, those obstacles have been overcome, and both shows are set to air on linear HBO while also being available for streaming on Max, similar to popular series like “House of the Dragon” and “The Last of Us.”
“Dune: Prophecy” is a prequel series to the “Dune” universe, focusing on two Harkonnen sisters as they navigate challenges that could impact the fate of humanity and establish the Bene Gesserit sect. The show features a stellar cast including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, and many more.
The series is helmed by showrunner Alison Schapker, with a team of executive producers that includes Diane Ademu-John, Anna Foerster, and others. The show is based on the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, with involvement from the Frank Herbert estate.
On the other hand, “The Penguin” delves into the backstory of Oswald Cobblepot after the events of “The Batman” movie, exploring his rise to become the infamous villain. The series stars Colin Farrell in the lead role, supported by a talented ensemble cast.
Executive produced by Matt Reeves and Lauren LeFranc, with direction by Craig Zobel, “The Penguin” promises to offer a fresh perspective on this iconic character. The production involves 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in partnership with Warner Bros. Television.
Both “The Penguin” and “Dune: Prophecy” are set to captivate audiences with their unique storylines and talented cast members. With these additions to the HBO Originals lineup, Warner Bros. Discovery continues to showcase its commitment to delivering compelling content to viewers on HBO Max.
