Critically Panned Netflix Movie Dominates Charts Despite Age-Gap Romance Criticism
A recent report by Netflix revealed that the most-streamed English film during the week of June 24 to June 30 was a movie that garnered a total of 26.8 million views. The film’s popularity soared, despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. With a critics score of 41% on Rotten Tomatoes and an even lower audience score of 30%, the film joined the ranks of other original movies like “Unfrosted” and “Mother of the Bride,” which also managed to climb to the top of the Netflix charts upon their release.
Following closely behind was “Trigger Warning,” another Netflix original starring Jennifer Alba, which secured the second-most-watched spot of the week with 26.3 million views. Despite its less-than-stellar reviews, the film had previously claimed the top spot in the week prior. In third place was the 1997 Morgan Freeman thriller “Kiss the Girls,” with 7.1 million views, followed by the 2022 Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy “Marry Me,” which garnered 4.3 million views before dropping off the streaming platform on June 29. Rounding out the top five was “Ultraman: Rising” with 3.7 million views.
The classic “John Wick,” which recently made its debut on Netflix, captured the sixth spot with 3.5 million views. It was followed by “Dracula Untold” with 3.3 million views, and “The Flash,” a DC film that underperformed at the box office, managed to attract 3.3 million views after its Netflix debut on June 25.
Two animated films that had previously premiered in theaters before landing on Netflix also made it to the top 10 list. “The Boss Baby” secured the ninth spot with 2.6 million views, while “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” held its position for the 16th week, drawing in 2.5 million views.
The diverse range of films on the top-streamed list showcases the varied tastes of Netflix viewers, with both original content and classic favorites finding success on the popular streaming platform. Despite differing critical receptions, these films have managed to capture the attention of millions of viewers, highlighting the platform’s ability to cater to a wide audience with its vast library of content.
