Richard Gere Joins Paramount+ Series “The Agency” on Showtime

Richard Gere is set to join the cast of the upcoming espionage political thriller series, “The Agency,” which will be available on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. The series, previously known as “The Department,” is currently in production in London and is commissioned by Showtime Studios in association with 101 Studios. The show will be executive produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov through Smokehouse Pictures.

The storyline of “The Agency” revolves around Martian, played by Michael Fassbender, a CIA agent who is tasked with leaving his undercover life to return to London Station. As he reunites with a past love interest, their romance is complicated by the dangerous world of international intrigue and espionage. Richard Gere will portray “Bosko,” the London Station Chief with a complex history as a former undercover agent.

Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, expressed excitement about Richard Gere joining the cast, alongside Michael Fassbender and Jeffrey Wright. Gere, known for his versatile acting career in films like “An Officer and a Gentleman,” “Pretty Woman,” and “Chicago,” brings depth and authenticity to his roles.

“The Agency” is a fresh adaptation of the acclaimed French series “Le Bureau des Légendes” (The Bureau), focusing on the lives and missions of agents within France’s external security service. The show has garnered praise for its suspenseful storytelling and compelling characters. Golden Globe nominee Joe Wright will direct and executive produce the series, with Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth serving as executive producers and writers.

The series is a collaboration between Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and other production partners. It will be distributed internationally through Paramount Global Content Distribution and Federation Studios. “The Agency” is expected to debut on-demand for Paramount+ subscribers before its on-air premiere, with international streaming available in various countries.
