The popular Netflix series “One Piece” is gearing up for an exciting Season 2, with fan-favorite characters and new additions set to make waves in the pirate adventure. Jeff Ward’s Buggy, a standout from Season 1, will be making a return, alongside Isorelys Paulino as Alvida and Michael Dorman as Pirate King Gold Roger, whose execution kickstarted the quest for his hidden treasure.
The live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga has commenced production in South Africa, with a scheduled launch in 2025. The cast, including Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji, recently reunited on the set of The Going Merry in Cape Town, as seen in a special video released to mark the occasion.
The anticipation for Buggy’s return in Season 2 stems from the character’s widespread popularity and status as a TikTok sensation. Showrunner Matt Owens expressed his satisfaction with Ward’s portrayal of Buggy, acknowledging the unexpected fan reception and acclaim for the character.
Explaining the recurring presence of villains like Buggy and Alvida in the series, Owens highlighted the significance of dreams in the world of One Piece. He emphasized that depriving villains of their ambitions is considered a fate worse than death in Oda’s storytelling, adding depth to the character dynamics and confrontations within the narrative.
Joining the ensemble for Season 2 are new cast members, including Brendan Sean Murray, Callum Kerr, Camrus Johnson, Clive Russell, Daniel Lasker, David Dastmalchian, Jazzara Jaslyn, Julia Rehwald, Rob Colletti, Ty Keogh, and Werner Coetser, adding further depth to the expanding universe of One Piece.
Produced in collaboration with Shueisha and Tomorrow Studios, the series follows Luffy’s quest to find the legendary One Piece treasure and become the King of the Pirates. As Luffy navigates perilous waters, he must assemble a formidable crew, secure a seaworthy vessel, and outmaneuver formidable adversaries on his path to greatness.
Season 2 of One Piece is helmed by writers and executive producers Matt Owens and Joe Tracz, with Eiichiro Oda serving as an executive producer alongside Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Tetsu Fujimura, Chris Symes, and Steven Maeda. The upcoming season promises to deliver more swashbuckling adventures, unexpected twists, and memorable characters as the journey to uncover the ultimate treasure continues.
