Elite Individuals Embrace Passion in Debut Teaser of Beloved Romance Novel ‘Rivals’ Adaptation

Disney’s upcoming screen adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s beloved novel “Rivals” promises a thrilling mix of horses, helicopters, and intrigue for fans. The star-studded cast includes Emily Atack, known for her role in “The Inbetweeners,” alongside David Tennant from “Doctor Who” and Aidan Turner of “Poldark” fame. Set in the 1980s, the series delves into the lives of the power-hungry elite in England as they navigate relationships and power struggles.

In the recently released teaser trailer, Tennant is seen as a gentleman farmer, Turner sports a dapper suit and a Tom Selleck-inspired mustache, while Atack dazzles in a period-inspired bodycon dress. The ensemble cast also features Catriona Chandler, Oliver Chris, Danny Dyer, Rufus Jones, Lisa McGrillis, Luke Pasqualino, Claire Rushbrook, and Victoria Smurfit in various pivotal roles.

“Rivals” is part of Cooper’s popular “Rutshire Chronicles” series, focusing on the intense rivalry between Rupert Campbell-Black, played by Alex Hassell, and Tony Baddingham, portrayed by David Tennant. Known as the “Queen of the Bonkbuster,” Cooper’s work is renowned for its steamy and scandalous storytelling, a trait that is expected to be reflected in the screen adaptation.

The eight-part series is scheduled to premiere later this year on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally. Produced by ITV Studios’ Happy Prince and penned by Dominic Treadwell-Collins and Laura Wade, the adaptation promises to captivate audiences with its blend of drama and romance. The executive producers include Treadwell-Collins, Wade, Cooper, Felicity Blunt, and Lee Mason, Disney+’s scripted content director for EMEA.

With anticipation building for the release, fans can look forward to immersing themselves in the world of “Rivals” and experiencing the gripping narrative brought to life by a talented cast and crew. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting adaptation.
