New Live-Action ‘Totally Spies!’ Series Coming to Prime Video

A beloved French animated series, Totally Spies!, is gearing up for a live-action revival on Amazon Prime Video. The upcoming project is a collaboration involving renowned producers, including Will Ferrell, working under Gloria Sanchez Productions.

Originally debuting in 2001, Totally Spies! has captivated audiences for more than two decades with its unique blend of espionage thrills and teenage drama. Conceived by Vincent Chalvon-Demersay and David Michel, the series has aired close to 200 episodes and even inspired a prequel film and a spin-off show.

This new live-action adaptation is set to reimagine the adventures of the iconic trio – Clover, Alex, and Sam – targeting a young adult demographic. The story will follow the stylish best friends as they navigate their roles as international spies while tackling the challenges of their freshman year in college. This fresh interpretation promises a mix of high-stakes action and relatable coming-of-age narratives.

The development of the live-action series is a joint effort between Amazon MGM Studios and Banijay Kids & Family, with Rola Bauer, Amazon’s head of Pan-English original series, leading the project. Alongside Ferrell, executive producers include Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor from Gloria Sanchez Productions, as well as Benoît Di Sabatino, CEO of Banijay Kids & Family.

Totally Spies! has garnered global acclaim, with the animated series being translated into 60 languages and distributed to over 220 territories. With a substantial social media following of 3 million, the franchise remains popular, recently launching its seventh season in France.

Elbaum, president of Gloria Sanchez Productions, expressed excitement for the venture, emphasizing the company’s commitment to showcasing female voices and multi-dimensional characters. She highlighted the enduring themes of girl power and friendship in the series, stating that they resonate strongly with the team.

Although no specific writer or cast has been announced for the live-action adaptation, the involvement of Ferrell and the Gloria Sanchez team hints at a promising blend of comedy and action. The revival presents an opportunity to introduce the characters to a new audience while offering a nostalgic trip down memory lane for long-time fans.
