Netflix’s Tomb Raider anime set to premiere on streaming platform in October
Netflix has announced that its animated Tomb Raider adaption, titled Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, will be available for streaming starting on October 10th. The show follows the events of the most recent video game trilogy, concluding with Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018. Hayley Atwell, known for her role as Peggy Carter in the MCU, will be portraying the iconic character of Lara Croft.
Here’s the setup for the series: Following the Survivor series, Lara Croft embarks on solo adventures, leaving her friends behind. However, she is compelled to return home when a valuable Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with a personal connection to her. This sets off a thrilling pursuit that will take Lara across the globe and into forgotten tombs, where she will confront her true self and determine the kind of hero she aspires to be.
The animated Tomb Raider series is part of Netflix’s expanding collection of video game adaptations. The streaming platform recently revealed plans for an animated Minecraft series as well. This resurgence of Tomb Raider as a franchise is evident with Amazon’s release of a new game developed by Crystal Dynamics and the creation of a live-action show led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
