Netflix Renews ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ for Season 2 – Exciting News!

The big-budget Indian drama series “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar” on Netflix has been renewed for another season. Since its debut on May 1, the show created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali quickly became the most-watched Indian series on Netflix in its first week. It also trended in the Top 10 charts in 43 countries and has maintained its position in the Global Top 10 (Non-English) chart for four weeks, leading to its renewal.

During a flashmob dance on Carter Road in Mumbai, the news of the show’s renewal was celebrated. Performers danced to a mix of songs from the first season, showcasing the excitement surrounding the series. “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar” delves into a power struggle during pre-independent India, focusing on the courtesans who governed the Heeramandi district of Lahore. The storyline revolves around a young heir torn between love and succession, adding depth to the narrative.

“I’m blessed by the love and appreciation for Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” expressed Bhansali. “It’s been a joy to see the show resonate with audiences worldwide, and I couldn’t have asked for a better partner than Netflix. I’m happy to announce that we’ll be back with season 2.” This sentiment was echoed by Monika Shergill, Vice-President Content at Netflix India, who praised Bhansali’s work on the series and the audience’s embrace of it as a cultural phenomenon.

Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos previously highlighted India as the streaming platform’s fastest-growing market. With the country expected to receive a larger share of Netflix’s content investment, a portion of that allocation will go towards the production of “Heeramandi” season 2.
