Guy Ritchie to direct Sherlock Holmes TV series for Prime Video
Guy Ritchie is set to direct a new series for Amazon Prime Video called Young Sherlock, based on the Young Sherlock Holmes books. The series will also have Ritchie as an executive producer. Hero Fiennes Tiffin has been cast to play the young Sherlock Holmes, a role he previously worked on with Ritchie in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which was released in April 2024.
Young Sherlock Holmes follows the adventures of the great detective at the age of 19, entangled in dark mysteries. The show’s blurb describes Sherlock as disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University that jeopardizes his freedom. The book series, consisting of eight novels published between 2010 and 2015, provides ample source material for the series.
Matthew Parkhill, known for his work on Primeval, Rogue, and Deep State, will be writing for the Young Sherlock series. Ritchie promises an exhilarating new version of the detective, delving into his character to uncover what makes him the genius audiences adore.
In 1985, a young Sherlock Holmes adventure hit the screens with a movie directed by Barry Levinson and written by Chris Columbus. Notably, the film featured a memorable scene where a young Watson hallucinates being attacked by an army of stop-motion foodstuffs. Ritchie, no stranger to Sherlock Holmes, previously directed the 2009 film starring Robert Downey Jr. and its sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
Susan Downey, producer and wife of Robert Downey Jr., hinted at the possibility of Sherlock Holmes 3, the anticipated follow-up to the Downey Jr. movies. She expressed enthusiasm for reuniting the cast, emphasizing the need for a compelling story to bring the characters back together on screen.
